Investigating Devonian soils from New York State

Jenny Morris (University of Sheffield) visits BOSCORF today to view our ITRAX core scanner.  Jenny is working with John Marshall (University of Southampton) on Devonian soils from New York State. During the Devonian, the first terrestrial plants spread across the globe and by the end of the period, there had been a veritable explosion in plant groups and growth forms. This research aims to investigate early soil formation and the effects of early plants on this.  We hope to run their cores on the ITRAX next week. At around 360-380 million years old, these will be the oldest cores yet run on our core scanner. (Image of early Devonian land plants)
