Venue: Conference Hall of Tsai Lecture Hall, College of Law, National Taiwan University - March 20-24, 2017

XRF scanners have made an important contribution to the non-destructive and high resolution investigation of sediment cores from lakes and marine environments over the last 25 years. More recently, they also contribute to the investigation of rock cores for minerals and other resources.

It is considered timely to bring together international specialists using high resolution sediment core-scanners in all fields of science to present new research, to stimulate new collaborations and discussions and to propose new technological developments.

Conference: 2.5 days of keynotes, oral presentations, and poster discussions

Field Excursion and Discussion: 2.5 days field excursion following the conference to understand the geological features of Taiwan

The island of Taiwan is located at the junction between the Eurasian and Philippine Sea Plates. Active tectonics and frequent typhoon landfall make Taiwan unique in having very high rates of uplift, precipitation, denudation and sedimentation. The 2.5 days field excursion will go to eastern and northern Taiwan, examining the young tectonic landforms and experiencing the dynamic geological features of the island. We will begin our journey at the world-famous Taroko National Park with its spectacular mountains, marble canyons and aboriginal culture. The famous Chingshui Cliff rises vertically from the Pacific Ocean, with a height of over 800 m, offering spectacular views. We are also going to experience both cold and hot springs in northeastern Taiwan, and enjoy the view at Yehliu Geopark (famous for its sea-eroded landscapes) and the volcanic landforms of Yangmingshan National Park.
