These online databases and reference collections may help you locate data and/or samples.

Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS)

This is a co-operative effort between 20 institutions and government agencies that maintain marine and lacustrine sample repositories. The IMLGS, hosted by the National Geophysical Data Centre, provides a means for scientists to locate and obtain geological samples from the seafloor and lakebeds. Based in Boulder, USA. Geo-Seas

Geo-Seas is a joint initiative by the European Commission Marine Science and Technology projects: EUROCORE (European Core Sample Collection for Master Training) and EUMARSIN (European Marine Sediment Information Network). It provides a searchable online metadatabase of seabed samples from the ocean basins and European continental waters held at European institutions and industrial companies. Located in Leidschendam, The Netherlands. (Geo-Seas website)

Pangaea

An information system aimed at archiving, publishing and distributing data from global change research, with special emphasis on palaeoclimatic, marine and environmental sciences. Hosted by the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI)in Bremerhaven, Germany. (Pangaea website)

Ocean Science Information System (OSIS)

GEOMAR in Kiel (Germany) host OSIS, the Ocean Science Information System for Expeditions, Numeric Models, and Experiments. (OSIS website, OSIS repository website)

British Geological Survey (BGS)

An index of metadata including marine geological datasets held by the British Geological Survey, Nottingham, UK. (BGS Linked Data)

System for Earth Sample Registration (SESAR)

SESAR operates the registry that distributes the International Geo Sample Number (IGSN), a unique identifier, allowing unambiguous referencing of geosample data. SESAR catalogues sample metadata profiles, and provides a sample search facility. (SESAR website)

National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)

The NCEI are part of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They store and manage a wide range of environmental and climatic data. The NCEI is an USA-wide organisation, managed from Ashville (USA). (NCEI website)
