James Smith from the British Antarctic Survey is visiting BOSCORF to sample cores from the Amundsen Sea, Southern Ocean. The data will be used to interpret anomalous radiocarbon ages from other cores in the area.

Kelly Hogan (Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge) is visiting BOSCORF to sample cores for radiocarbon dating in order to better constrain deglaciation in the Barents Sea.

We are pleased that Dr Ursula Roehl (University of Bremen) will join the BOSCORF Steering Committee. She will replace Professor Emi Ito (Director, LacCORE Repository, University of Minnesota) who has served on the Committee since 2007.  Dr Roehl is a world-recognised expert on non-destructive core logging, including XRF core scanning, and its applications.  She is also co-coordinator of the Ocean & Climate Section of MARUM and manager of the IODP Bremen Core Repository.

BAS geologist James Smith is visiting BOSCORF to use our Geotek multi-sensor core logger (MSCL-S) to analyse cores collected from beneath two Antarctic ice shelves (Larsen-C and George VI) during the 2011-12 field season.  This work is part of the BAS Palaeo Ice Sheets work package (Ice Sheet Program) which is investigating Antarctic ice shelf history.
